Board Member Eligibility Requirements

According to the Credit Union Act, BVCU's Bylaws, as well as policy guidelines, there are a number of mandatory requirements that that an individual must meet and/or adhere to in order to be a director.  

To be eligible to run as a candidate for our Board, candidates must be:

• 18 years of age or older
• a Canadian citizen or permanent resident  
• a resident of Alberta
• a member of BVCU upon submission of your Expression of Interest
• have BVCU account(s) in good standing
• technologically independent and fully capable to participate in online work and communications (including but not limited to scanning documents, full use of online calendar/email services, applying their e-signature, joining and possibly leading virtual meetings, etc.), and be able to learn to use new technology independently as required
• able to say that they have not been an employee of BVCU within the past three years
• in compliance with the Credit Union Act, particularly Section 65
• in compliance with BVCU’s Policies and Bylaws and, in particular, Bylaw 6.0
